I recently attended a business conference in Chicago. Actually, I decided to bring my wife and kids along and extend the trip into a family vacation.

I’m glad you asked :).
Before I tell you how I pulled this off, let me go back a few years - because it wasn’t always like this.
I spent almost 10 years as a freelance music producer, running my own recording studio.
Yes, it was a great time in my life - I absolutely loved making music with great bands and not having a normal 9-5 job.
I’d always been the sort of person who wanted more than the status quo, and I was committed to going against the grain and working for myself.
But as I got older, got married, and had my first child, the business got more and more difficult.
I would go work at the studio for 10 or 12 hours every day and come home too exhausted to engage with my family.
Plus, my wife and I had decided that she would stay home with our son while I worked…
But truth is, I wasn’t making enough money to maintain our lifestyle, especially with the end of her maternity leave creeping closer every day.
It was a breaking point. I thought that maybe my days of producing records were over, and it was time to put on the suit-and-tie and go work for ‘the man.’
I had no post-secondary education, so after doing some research, it seemed like becoming an insurance salesman was my only shot at making some decent money without going back to school.
I spent weeks learning and studying and meeting with managers, until one day, I got a call from the insurance company.
They informed me that I had passed the first exam, and that I only needed to write one more easy test to join there team and start my new career as an “advisor.”
I remember that moment, because all of the sudden I realized I was way off track.
This career had nothing to do with my talents, my abilities, even my personality… yet I was about to give up everything I love for a shot at making a few bucks?
I told them right then and there that I was out. I wasn’t going to finish the training. It was in my blood to cut my own path, and I wasn’t going to give up yet.
After another year or of hopping from one opportunity to the next while continuing to slog it out in the studio, I stumbled across an interesting idea.
I discovered that there were people out there selling online courses in all sorts of niches…
Things like horse training, orchid care, ukulele playing and muscle-building...
And these people weren’t running little side businesses. Many of them were earning multiple 6-figures and even 7-figures per year.
That’s when it dawned on me…
What if all those years in the studio weren’t for nothing?
What if I could take all of that skill and knowledge and create my own online course, teaching people how to make better sounding recordings?
I devoured hundreds of hours of podcasts, read countless books and - most importantly - took action immediately.
Within 90 days I launched my first course, in which I showed people how I mixed a song from start to finish.
I launched the course on a Monday, heart pounding, just hoping someone would buy it.
My goal for an absolute success was to sell 10 copies.
But to my utter shock, I sold 10 that first day…
And by the end of the week, I had sold 28 courses and earned $10,000.
This stuff was actually real.
Now I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t care about the money. It was the only reason I created the course in the first place.
But a few weeks later, I started getting emails from my customers thanking me for creating the course.
That’s right - they paid me $350 for an online course and then wrote in to thank me for the opportunity!
What I didn’t realize is that my training could actually change peoples' lives.
My customers were finally releasing their own music, having fun again in the studio, and one student even improved his craft so much that he quit his job and went full-time in his studio.
These emails and stories made it clear: Not only did I have a huge opportuntiy, I had a responsibility to share my knowledge and experience to help others improve their lives.
From there, I took off - creating more courses, building my list of followers and creating helpful content around my passion for producing music.
